Indlovu River Lodge

Indlovu River Lodge is located near Hoedspruit in the low-risk malaria area of Karongwe Private Game Reserve in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Indlovu’s (Indlovu meaning Elephant in the Zulu language) renowned wildlife photo safari hides are amongst the best wildlife photography hides in South Africa.

Karongwe Private Game Reserve

Karongwe is situated in the arid Central Lowveld region, east of the Drakensberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province. The 9 000ha (22, 239-acre’s) Karongwe Game Reserve, is located to the south-west of the Kruger National Park. Three rivers flow through the reserve, all tributaries of the Olifants River, carving their way through the bedrock and dividing the reserve. The vegetation of the reserve falls within the savannah biome of southern Africa, with distinct vegetation zones being represented – mixed Lowveld and Mopane bushveld along with grass savannah, riverine vegetation and rocky outcrops.

It is here in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve at ‘Indlovu’ we host our wildlife photo safaris focusing on wildlife and birdlife ‘low angle photography’. These sunken hides provide the amateur or professional wildlife photographer with an opportunity to get quality photographs of some, if not all, of Africa’s Big 5.

Join me at Indlovu wildlife photo safari hides, for an unforgettable African wildlife photography experience, using some of the best hides for wildlife photographers in South Africa.

Wildlife Photography Hides in South Africa

INDLOVU RIVER LODGE -WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY HIDES

The days spent at Indlovu will allow you to spend as much time as possible in the two custom-built hides in front of 2 different waterholes (morning and afternoon light) only metres away from the animals and birds.

Each fully carpeted hide (to dull any inside noise) allows for 5 photographers/persons to sit comfortably beside one another in director type adjustable swivel chairs, each fitted with gimbal support systems.  Additional bean bags allow for another camera body to be at the ready if necessary. Space allows for our professional wildlife photographer to walk behind each photographer engaging with each one as necessary and to ensure you are ready to capture those images when they happen.  It also allows photographers to stretch their legs and perhaps have that cup of coffee to keep one ‘sharp’.

As part of an area known as the Greater Kruger Park, Karongwe Private Game Reserve, in South Africa’s Limpopo province is a 21,000 hectare ‘Big 5’ game reserve which overlooks the majestic Drakensberg mountain range.  It is here that you will find some of the best wildlife photography hides in South Africa, the Indlovu wildlife photo safari hides.

As a specialist photo hide destination and to make the most of the opportunities that arise while in the hide it is advisable to bring suitable camera equipment, some of which we have detailed below.  We can help you, just follow the link, should you want to hire camera equipment.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT THE HIDES

During the Spring/Summer months (rainy season) in the Lowveld, natural pools of water in the bushveld lure animals away from the man-made hides at Indlovu.  It is, therefore, better to visit Indlovu hides during the dryer winter months from June through to October.  Naturally, ideal conditions would be hot, dry and sunny when you are there to ensure the animals and birds are enticed back to the waterholes.
